    Reviews

Based on MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanics System) technology, this electrically variable optical attenuator (VOA) is an important reconfigurable component in optical networks. It can be used to achieve remote controlling of optical power in the optical networks. Its main applications include optical power equalization, channel transmission equalization in WDM networks, automatic gain configuration for optical amplifiers, and protection of the optical receivers, etc.

This MEMS-based VOA has ultra-small package and exceptionally fast adjustment speed. Furthermore, it is low cost, reliable and environmentally stable. This MEMS VOA complies with reliability tests defined in Telcordia GR1073.

The VOA has three electrical pins. The optical attenuation is continuously adjusted by changing its driving voltage. The voltage is 0~5V.

C band, L band and 1064nm versions are available.

Features:

  • Broad operating wavelength range
  • High reliability
  • Wide attenuation range (0~40dB)
  • Low insertion loss (typical 0.5dB)
  • Low power consumption

Applications:

  • Optical power control and equalization
  • Receiver protection
  • Channel on/off switching
